A commemorative garden area was opened at Burwell Village College primary school on Monday to mark First and Second World War anniversaries. Funded by local businesses, it features a cherry tree, log seating, lavender, a tree seat, a plaque with ‘1914-2014’ on and thousands of planted poppy seeds.

The garden is in the corner of the school field, away from the hustle and bustle of the playground and it is hoped that individual classes will go there to enjoy storytime sessions with their teachers.

Royal British Legion National Chairman John Crisford opened the garden.
