Roy Hudd helps the aged of Newmarket

ENTERTAINER Roy Hudd has handed over the keys of a new bus to help elderly people get out and about.

The comedian and actor, who recently starred in episodes of Coronation Street, handed over the keys to users of Newmarket Dial a Ride.

Mr Hudd, 70, is the vice-president of Stage for Age, the celebrity arm of Help the Aged, which helped to raise 5,000 towards the new bus.

The remaining 20,000 was paid for by donations from passengers and members of the community.

Caroline Cowie, general manager of Newmarket Dial a Ride, said: "We would like to thank Help the Aged, our passengers and all those people who donated money to help us purchase this vehicle.

"It has been badly needed for some time now, and I know I speak for our network when I say that it is vital to our resources here.

"We look forward to using it for a long time to come."
