Residents call on MP to back development fight

THE chairman of Crockfords Park Residents' Association has written to MP Jim Paice because he is worried about the potential problems a housing development could cause.

Garsham Robertson has contacted Mr Paice because he is worried that people turning into the proposed development on St John's Avenue could clash with parents dropping off and picking up their children at Ditton Lodge Primary School.

He said that traffic would become even worse with the planned expansion of the school, which is set to be completed by September 2011 and will accommodate youngsters in readiness of the closure of middle schools in neighbouring Suffolk, which will see children stay on at primary school for an additional two years.

"Imagine what it will be like with an extra 33 per cent traffic loading from the expanded school, now add in 21 residential houses with no suitable parking," Mr Robertson told the Journal.

"It's a nightmare and not just from a congestion point of view but a very real safety issue."

In a letter to Mr Paice, Mr Robertson added: "I have raised, yet again, the question of safety, particularly concerning the issue of the increase in school capacity of around 33 per cent.

"Highways and East Cambridgeshire said last year at the previous planning application that this could not be taken into consideration as the works had not started.

"The expansion will be completed soon and in advance of the current planning application review.

"The silence from both bodies about taking this into consideration – for a development of 21 residential dwellings directly opposite the school and on a blind bend – is almost deafening."

A spokeswoman for Flagship Kings' Forest said: "Flagship Kings' Forest will follow all guidance provided by the local authority planning department and Suffolk County Council Highways Department in relation to any traffic issues."

A spokesman from East Cambridgeshire Council said that all comments made by residents would be taken into consideration before any judgment was made on a planning application.
