It’s been one of the area’s most popular bank holiday weekend events for more than 30 years but Monday’s soggy weather saw the crowds at this year’s Fenland Country Fair at Quy tumble.

Organiser Malcolm Hall said the inclement August downpours saw visitors to the third day of the fair down from around 8,000 to just 500.

“The crowds on Saturday and Sunday weren’t bad, in fact Sarurday’s numbers were actually up on last year, but that did not make up for what we lost on Monday,” said Malcolm.

Proceeds from the fair go to a variety of local causes including the East Anglian Air Ambulance and Quy village and for the first time this year, the Retraining of Racehorses charity.
