Racing heroes captured on camera

Legends from both codes of racing feature in the winning picture for this year’s Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) Amateur Photographic Calendar Competition.

The picture, which was taken by Jean Ashdown-Coates, shows former Flat champion jockey Lester Piggott feeding former Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Desert Orchid.

Among those sitting on the judging panel for this year’s competition was 17-time champion National Hunt jockey Tony McCoy and Channel Four racing presenter Emma Spencer.

The calendar , titled Photo Finish, costs £12 in wall format and £7 in postcard format.
