Racing chaplain the Rev Graham Locking is to conduct his final service in the town on Sunday.
The 60 year old, who has worked in the position for Racing Welfare since 1999, will carry out his final service at St Mary’s Church at 6.30pm, before vacating his post to take charge of a Methodist church in Storrington, Sussex.
“I have been a minister since 1978 and I never felt more loved or accepted more than I have in Newmarket,” said Mr Locking.
“I will miss that friendliness of people in the town.
“For the last 15 years I have not been able to do much in the way of preaching or the Eucharist part of my vocation, which are things that I have missed , plus I am now 60 and I would like to have one more challenge.”
