Chantal Wootten has spoken of her delight after Purple Moon secured a somewhat of a surprise victory at the Hickstead Derby Meeting.
Following a torrid season, which has been persistently disrupted through injury, the former Ebor winner shot back into prominence to win the Tattersalls and retraining of Racehorse Thoroughbred Horse Championship.
“Obviously I am over the moon with the result and if I am honest it came as a massive surprise,” said Wootten. “For me it is a huge personal achievement.
“This whole season has been a bit of a write off because of the injuries and so to actually win the event was absolutely fantastic.
“The Norfolk Show prior to the competition was our first competition back from injury and so we didn’t have the preparation we should have had.”
Wootten’s attention will now be on securing a place at the Horse of the year show from the three remaining qualifiers, although she knows it will not be easy.
“We won a qualifier last year but there was 44 other horses involved,” she added.
“I know this year will be just as difficult if not even tougher so we will have to wait and see.”
