Primary school pupil confirmed with swine flu
A CASE of swine flu has been confirmed at Newmarket's St Louis Primary School.
The Fordham Road school will remain open as usual and is working closely with the Health Protection Agency, Suffolk County Council and NHS Suffolk to monitor the situation.
Headteacher Teresa Selvey, confirmed that one pupil had the virus and there was one other suspected case.
She said both youngsters were at home receiving medical treatment and there were currently no plans to close the school.
“We have had it confirmed that one young person who attends St Louis Primary School has swine flu,” she said.
“There is also one further suspected case at the school.
“There are currently no other young people or members of staff displaying any of the symptoms associated with swine flu.”
She added: “The school’s leadership team and governors will continue to monitor the situation and will keep parents informed if the situation should change.”
It follows an outbreak two weeks ago at Burwell Village College Primary School where three pupils contracted the illness. The school was closed but re-opened on Thursday.
The Health Protection Agency has advised anyone who develops flu-like symptoms to stay at home, limit contact with other people and ring their GP or NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Each case will be assessed and, if necessary, testing and treatment will be provided.
