Police slam graffiti vandals for town takeaway damage

Police have slammed graffiti vandals who sprayed the window of a Newmarket Indian takeaway with a swastika and racist slur.

Cinnamon Indian Takeaway, in Wellington Street, had its front window vandalised at about 1.35pm on Saturday. No arrests have yet been made.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said the incident was “wholly unacceptable” and added that police were appealing for information from anyone who knows who was responsible.

“This sort of incident is wholly unacceptable. Not only did it cause damage to the premises, but it could also have caused a great deal of offence to the owners and anyone who saw it,” the spokesman said.

“We would appeal for anyone who knows who is responsible to contact police immediately.”

No-one from the restaurant was available for comment.

A pillar near to the back entrance of TK Maxx in Newmarket was also vandalised with a red swastika design, but police said the incident had not been reported to them.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
