A month after 89-year-old Connie Hallford was attacked in her Lakenheath home police have renewed a witness appeal.

Mrs Hallford was at her home, in Arrowhead Drive, between 7.45pm and 8.05pm on February 17, when she heard banging at the door.

She went to investigate and was confronted by the door falling to the ground and three dark-clothed men who had their faces covered.

One of the intruders hit her with a blunt object, knocking her to the floor and causing blood to rush from a gash on her head.

Speaking after the attack Mrs Hallford said the men had demanded money from her during the ‘frightening’ attack.

In the weeks since the attack officers have taken more than 60 witness statements and carried out a number of enquiries including house to house visits, viewing of CCTV and a full and thorough forensic examination of the house.

An image of a bag similar to the one believed to have been stolen from the house during the burglary was also released.

One month on, police are keen to hear from anyone who may have information which could help them identify the men involved.

Detective Inspector David Giles who is overseeing the investigation said: “We have a dedicated team of officers working on this case who are determined to find those responsible for this despicable crime.

“The response so far has been encouraging but we still need the vital piece of information to help move the investigation forward.

“Connie is receiving the appropriate support and care she needs and I’m pleased to say that she is doing well, but it would be good to be able to reassure her soon that we have caught those responsible.”

All three of the men are described as wearing dark clothing and had their faces largely covered.

A well as the three men police are keen to trace the occupants of a black Vauxhall car that was seen in the Back Lane area of Lakenheath around 7.30pm on the same evening

Contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 quoting crime no. MH/14/265 or anonymous calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
