A woman is recovering in hospital with serious injuries following an accident in Beck Row on Wednesday.

Police were called by a member of the public at approximately 5.46pm to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A1101 near to Rookery Drove.

A black Mercedes collided with a woman, aged in her 60s, who was walking on the pavement, causing her serious injuries.

The woman was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by air ambulance where she is in a stable condition.

The male driver of the Mercedes, a man in his 70s, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The road was closed until 11.40pm whilst the Serious Collision Investigation Team carried out their investigation and recovery of the vehicle.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who had been travelling along the A1101 between Littleport in Cambridgeshire and Beck Row who saw the vehicle prior to the collision taking place or who witnessed the collision itself. Calls should be made to PC Jason Lambourne at the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101 quoting CAD 343 of 3 August 2014
