Police in Newmarket will be holding a catalytic converter marking event tomorrow to help motorists prevent thefts.

The marking, which is offered free of charge, will take place between 9am and 4pm at ATS Euromaster, in Bury Road, Newmarket.

The event is aimed at helping owners of vehicles with high ground clearance, such as vans and 4x4 vehicles, which tend to be targed by thieves due to the ease with which they can reach underneath the vehicles.

Catalytic converters will be etched with the vehicle’s registration number and also marked with a heat-resistant silver spray.

The spray will act as both a deterrent to thieves, as well as identifying the catalytic converter to scrap dealers if any offenders tried to sell it to them.

Vehicle owners will also be given stickers to place in their windows, warning potential thieves that the converter has been security protected.

Anyone who would like to attend the event is required to make an appointment in advance by calling 01638 662521.
