Award winning floral artist Paula Pryke swapped her flower arranging tools for a pair of scissors on Friday to open the new design centre at the Newmarket branch of Homebase.

The OBE recipient, and writer of 16 books on flower arranging, was on hand to officially cut the ribbon at The Oaks store following the completion of a seven-week project at the site.

To celebrate the launch Mrs Pryke carried out several flower arranging demonstrations, while customers visiting the store received 25 per cent off each item bought.

The winner of the design your dream bedroom competition was also announced. Winning the first prize of £1,000 of Homebase vouchers was eight year-old Susie King from Gazeley.

“This new design centre is all part of the Homebase vision,” said Neil Dembicki, branch manager.

“There are new demonstration zones enabling customers to feel things out before buying, along with a new coffee shop where people can now come in and spend time to relax.

“Customer service levels will also be greatly improved with staff under going hours of product knowledge training.”
