Pat all set to follow in Ghenkis Khan's footsteps

A TREK across Mongolia is one of two events a Soham woman has planned to raise money for an animal charity.

Fundraiser and horse lover Pat Woodman wants to raise the money for national working animal charity The Brooke, which cares for injured animals in developing countries.

The first event takes place at Kings' Forest in Thetford on Easter Sunday when riders will be invited to take part in a trek of up to 15 miles.

"I really hope lots of people from the local area will come along," she said. "I can't tell you the difference every penny of sponsorship makes to the lives of working horses and donkeys, as well as their poor owners."

Mrs Woodman, who suffered a heart attack in 2001, has already completed two challenges in India and Jordan to raise funds for The Brooke.

The 63 year old's trek across Mongolia in June will mark her third overseas challenge for the charity.

"The Mongolia ride is a little bit daunting but I can't resist a challenge, particularly when it's for The Brooke," she said.

"While in Jordan and India, I actually got to see the work they do and seeing it first hand really spurred me on to do more."

Mrs Woodman will join 30 riders from around the UK, trekking for up to eight hours a day across the vast plains and remote valleys of the Khangai Mountains.

Anyone wishing to take part in the trek through King's Forest – riders can set off between 10am and 1pm – can call Mrs Woodman on 01353 723448 or email butanga19@hotmail.co.uk.

There will be rosettes for all those who complete the ride and a prize for the rider who pledges the highest sponsorship.
