Newmarket College will be revealing “insider tactics” at a vital information session for parents of Year 11 students.
Tonight’s event, which starts at 7pm, will cover GCSE requirements for courses and careers.
In addition to a keynote presentation detailing the school year’s important dates, subject leaders in English, maths and science will be running interactive sessions so parents get a taste of what their children need to be doing.
They will also get advice about how to help motivate teenagers, and the websites, books and other resources they should be accessing.
Hazel Simmons, assistant college principal said: “Education experts agree students achieve the very best results when parents are supportive and involved.
“We have created a revision guide specifically for parents, which will be distributed at the event.
“We cannot stress enough that this vital school year has a direct impact on college, university and the career options available to young people.
“The evening will also explain what the GCSE requirements are for courses and careers beyond Year 11 – all of which need thinking about and planning right now.
“There will be examples of the kinds of exercises that students will be completing as part of their GCSEs and it’s a great way for parents to ensure their children are ahead of the game and that stress is reduced.”
