Newmarket’s Town Crier was a hit with the kids at Party in the Park on Thursday.
The event, held at the Memorial Gardens and organised by Newmarket Town Council, was the final fun day of the summer holidays.
There were party games, inflatables and a visit from town crier Brenda Willison, who proved to be popular with youngsters.
Kay Dawson, the council’s events manager, said: “We invited her along because we thought a lot of the children probably didn’t know what a town crier does.
“It was really good for the kids. They all came rushing over when they saw her and asked about what she does.
“We were really lucky with the weather as well. It was packed. I wanted to put some more games out, but there was no room!”
Kay said the council’s summer holiday activities have become increasingly popular with families in the town.
“It’s so well known now. People arrive with some lunch and meet all their friends. It’s free as well, which makes a difference. People spend so much during the holidays, but this is one day each week where they can give the children a day out for free.”
