Councillors are being urged to reject a Newmarket town centre bar’s plan to lift late night restrictions on its beer garden.
Drinkers at The White Hart Hotel in the High Street are currently not allowed to use the pub’s outside seating areas after 11pm but that could change if members of Forest Heath District Council’s Licensing Act 2003 sub committee agree the pub’s licence variation application when they meet on Monday.
Among those objecting to the application is the council’s own public health and housing officer, Emma Grace, who said: “The conditions requested to be removed are present to prevent public nuisance and focus on the most sensitive periods ie late at night when background levels are reduced and when sleep could be disturbed.
“The beer garden has resulted in noise complaints in the past and does have the potential to cause noise disturbance.”
Three residents have also objected to the application.
