Newmarket funeral for Liam Fairhurst
Liam Fairhurst's funeral service will be held at Newmarket's Roman Catholic Church on Friday July 10 at noon.
His family have asked that people attending wear bright colours and have requested family flowers only but charitable donations can be made through funeral director C E Fuller and Co, 23 Hall Street, Soham, Cambs CB7 5BN or www.bmycharity.com/liamfairhurst.
Liam died at home in Soham on Tuesday after a four year battle with cancer that began in July 2005 when he was diagnosed with cancer (synovial sarcoma) in his leg and underwent gruelling chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.
A year later after losing his best friend, Jack, to bladder cancer Liam sets out on a fundraising drive in his memory to help other children with cancer and four months later started his fundraising with a one mile sponsored swim which raised over 12,000.
It was the start of a campaign that was to raise some 320,000 in just over two years.
Liam's family called him a "beacon of hope" and Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who Liam met when he received a special award for his fund raising told the Journal: : "Liam was a courageous young man who showed immense bravery in the face of his illness.
"It was a privilege to meet him - his dedication as a fundraiser was an encouragement to us all and I am very proud of what Liam achieved."
