A sports project that provides free activities for young people across the Forest Heath district has received a cash boost.

Leisure Leagues, which launched a new six-a-side league at Newmarket Leisure Centre this month, has donated £1,000 to Street Sports for equipment and uniforms.

The programme provides young people with a fun, safe environment to meet and play sport to keep them engaged and off the streets.

Keiran Williams, sport and physical activity development officer at Anglia Community Leisure, which runs Street Sports, said: “We are very grateful to Leisure Leagues for their kind donation to our Street Sports project.

“The equipment and coaches’ uniforms will allow us to focus funding efforts on the direct delivery of sessions, while giving coaches the best possible resources to deliver the sessions.”

Chris Rowntree, of Leisure Leagues, said: “We are delighted that we were able to make the donation of equipment and cannot wait for the big kick off.”

Matches will take place at 7pm on Mondays.
