Richard Bennett is the new president of Newmarket Rotary Club.

He took over the chain of office from Ron Dubbins at a handover ceremony at the town’s Heath Court Hotel earlier this month.

Mr Bennett, who lives in Fulbourn, first jopined Rotary in 1988 but is a newcomer to the Newmarket branch having transferred from the Rotary Club of Norwich South when he moved from the city to Fulbourn in 2010. A civil engineer having graduated from Loughborough University in 1960, he has worked for both private and public bodies all over the country and spent the last 16 years of his professional life running his own engineering consultancy in Norwich.

His 26 years as a rotarian have already included a year as president of the Rotary Club of Norwich South and he believes he is well prepared for the challenge of heading the Newmarket Rotary Club in the coming year. For information about meetings call vice-president Robert Nobbs on 01638 667171.
