New clinic gives specialist care
Newmarket patients, who need hip or knee replacements, will be able to get specialist care closer to home with the launch of a new clinic in the town.
It will be held at Newmarket Hospital every other Tuesday and is being run by orthopaedic surgeon, Sam Parsons, who has worked in Bury St Edmunds for three years having previously been a consultant at the Centre for Hip Surgery in Wrightington Hospital, near Manchester.
The clinics, run by West Suffolk Hospital, will give hip or knee patients the chance to be seen quickly. Although they would still need to go into West Suffolk Hospital for surgery, they would be able to have their initial appointments, and any follow up treatment in Newmarket.
“We are committed to making it as easy as possible for people to access the specialist care we provide, and hope that this important new clinic will help us do just that,” said Mr Parsons.
“We will be accepting referrals from local GPs, while patients who live in the Newmarket area could also choose to have their appointments at the clinic. We will be offering a comprehensive service, from initial assessment through to follow up appointments, all in a convenient location which is easy for people to reach.”
And he added: “We hope the clinic will benefit our patients by reducing the distance they need to travel for treatment and bringing services closer to home.”
The clinics are available to all patients, not just new referrals. Those due to be seen in Bury St Edmunds, but who live closer to Newmarket and would prefer to be seen there, will be able to change the location of their appointment by ringing on 01284 713713.
