New cafe opens for dementia sufferers
A new cafe launched to help dementia sufferers and their carers will open its doors in Newmarket today.
Synergy Cafe will be open from 10am to 3pm every Thursday at Childwick House in Howard De Walden Way.
The new facility was set up by Orbit Independent Living, which runs Childwick House, in conjunction with Sue Ryder.
Deborah Mallet, of Orbit Independent Living, said: “This is something that is needed in the area. It is aimed at giving people with dementia and their carers education, support and advice so they feel they are in a safe environment.”
The cafe is open to residents of Childwick house and their carers, as well as members of the public.
Jo Marshall, of Sue Ryder, said: “What is different about a dementia cafe is it brings people together, people with the condition, their carers and circle of support, health and social care professionals.
“This is an exciting opportunity to work together and through that synergy we hope that more can be achieved.”
Volunteers are needed to help run the cafe. Anyone who is interested is asked to call 01638 660967.
