A Newmarket building Society is putting £1,000 up for grabs as part of a new initiative to benefit local charities.

Staff at the Yorkshire Building Society in the High Street are kick-starting the campaign to help good causes by inviting members of the public to call in to vote for their favourite of three charities to decide how the money should be split.

The charities in line for a cash boost are Newmarket Day Centre, the Jillian Raymond Riding for the Disabled group and The Voluntary Network.

The campaign, which will run for two weeks, will be launched tomorrow when Newmarket MP Matthew Hancock will cast the first vote. The charity with the most will receive £500, second place £300 and third place, £200. “We know how important our charities are to our community so we’re delighted to be making a donation to help them, just how much they receive will be up to our customers and members of the public,” said Rose Knightley, branch manager.
