More to be done to increase figures at town racecourses

Newmarket Racecourses managing director Amy Starkey insists there is still work to be done despite combined attendance figures at the Rowley Mile and July Course increasing by four per cent.

Although crowd figures from both tracks rose from 327,000 in 2011 to 340,000 for the 2012 Flat season Miss Starkey feels there is still a lot of room for improvement in getting more to visit each racecourse.

“The year-on-year attendance increase in 2012 is very welcome and shows that the investments we have made to date in improving the experience,” said Miss Starkey.

“However, there is still more to do, especially in increasing the attraction of coming racing on the Rowley Mile in the spring and autumn.”

Despite work needing to be done at the Rowley Mile, the Adnams Newmarket Nights meetings on the July Course proved popular once again, with total attendance figures topping the 100,00 0 mark.

Newmarket Racecourses officials expect to be in a position to announce the list of those appearing at the Adnams Newmarket Nights meetings in 2013 by the New Year.
