Model’s brother tells of family grief
The brother of model Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead at the home of Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, has spoken of his family’s grief following her death.
Adam Steenkamp, 36, from Moulton flew to Port Elizabeth in South Africa on Friday to attend the private funeral of his sister, who died on Valentine’s Day at the home of Pistorius in Pretoria, South Africa.
She was 29 years old.
Speaking to reporters after the funeral, Mr Steenkamp said: “Everyone is sad, understandably, but at certain points we were smiling whilst remembering Reeva, because we only have good memories of her.
The married father-of-two added: “There’s a space missing inside all the people that she knew that cannot be filled again.”
Athlete Pistorius, who was Miss Steenkamp’s boyfriend, is accused of murdering her at his home.
The 26-year-old double amputee competed in both the Olympic and Paralympic 2012 games in London.
Lawyers for Pistorius will apply for bail in a hearing that is expected to last two days.
Mr Steenkamp said: “We’re going to keep all the positive things that we remember and know about my sister and we will try and continue with the things that she tried to make better. We’ll miss her.”
