Members of a gym in Newmarket will take to the athletics track in neighbouring Bury St Edmunds on Sunday to participate in a charity event with a difference.
Between 30 and 50 members of CrossFit A14 will head over to the track, which is the home of West Suffolk Athletics Club, to contest a burpee mile.
It is expected that entrants will complete between 800 and 1,000 of the aerobic exercises during the event which will run between 12pm and 5pm.
All proceeds raised will be donated the Cambridge arm of the Sick Children’s Trust.
“Burpees are something we use a lot in cross fit training and I thought lets do something a bit crazy and use them in a way which can help raise money for charity,” said Alex Hammond, organiser and joint-manager of the gym.
“We have decided not to go down the route of online sponsorship but there will be collection buckets on the day and hopefully that will encourage people to put a few quid in and help us reach a good total for the charity.”
