A MAN from Burwell is fighting for his life after his car was in collision with a lorry on Monday.

The 33 year old suffered serious head and chest injuries when his silver Ford Focus collided with a scaffolding lorry on the A1303, near the Swaffham Heath Road junction, at 8.35am.

The man was trapped in the car and had to be freed by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment.

He was treated at the scene by East Anglian Air Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where yesterday he remained in a critical condition.

His passenger, a seven-year-old boy, from Cambridge, sustained a fractured pelvis and is in a stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

The driver of the lorry, a 35-year-old man from Biggleswade, and his passenger, a 25-year-old man from Stevenage, were uninjured.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward with information.

Sergeant Chris Huggins said: “I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident.”

Anyone with information should contact the roads policing unit on 101.
