Man’s charity work to be honoured by the Queen
Robert Clinton BEM
The treasurer and trustee of a charity for ex-servicemen and woman has been awarded the British Empire Medal for his services.
Robert Clinton, 71, will receive the honour in recognition of his work with Veterans Aid, a charity he joined six years ago as honorary treasurer and trustee.
He provides financial advice and guidance to the charity, which has been caring for ex-servicemen and women for 80 years, many of whom are alcohol or drug-dependent, homeless or unwell.
“It has been a great privilege to have been associated with Veterans Aid over the last six or so years and I am most honoured to receive this award, which I consider is as much for the great team running the charity as it is for myself,” said Mr Clinton, who lives with wife Joan in Stradishall, near Newmarket.
Veterans Aid chairman Brigadier Johnny Ricketts said: “Robert’s drive and enthusiasm has led to a complete modernisation of the charity’s finance and governance system.
“His wise council has helped to turn this relatively unknown charity into one of the most important organisations of it kind.”
Mr Clinton joined Veterans Aid after a distinguished career in the City and in industry, where he worked as a corporate treasurer at several companies and was head of corporate finance at a stockbroking firm before he retired in 1999.
He served in the Honourable Artillery Company.
