Lucky escape for Newmarket pupils as branch ripped from tree in high winds

Rayes Lane, Newmarket.

Rayes Lane, Newmarket.

Schoolchildren in Newmarket had a lucky escape when part of a tree crashed to the ground near a primary school.

A branch was ripped from the tree and fell to the ground in Rayes Lane during today’s high winds and strong rain, narrowly missing parents picking up their children from nearby St Louis Primary School.

Catherina Scott-Hart, of the Friends of St Louis Primary School, said the fallen branch was left lying across the whole lane.
