A £4 MILLION supermarket complex which could be built on the outskirts of Newmarket would provide 180 jobs.

Co-operative Retail Services’ scheme for five acres of land in Fordham Road is due to come before Forest Heath Council next

month.

If the application is successful CRS would buy the land from CI Caravans. The scheme includes a 40,000 sq ft food store, car park and petrol sales.

Its 18,000 sq ft of selling space would make it bigger than Newmarket’s Waitrose and 1,000 sq ft bigger than Cambridge Co-op’s Beehive supermarket.

A NEW EEC ruling could threaten the future of an old coach being restored by Burwell and District Bus Preservation Society. New regulations mean the 47-seater 1962 coach must have a tachograph fitted for use on the road.

But the rule presents a financial problem for the society, which has already raised more than £1,000 and spent a long time renovating the vehicle.
