Long serving councillor for Soham dies aged 85

Long-serving Soham councillor, John Palmer, died on Thursday aged 85.

Cllr Palmer, who lived in Pratt Street, Soham, served two stints on East Cambridgeshire District Council from 1990 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2014.

He was a councillor for Soham from 1990 to 2003 when he was elected member for Soham North until 2007. In 2011, he was elected councillor for Soham South.

Council chairman Tony Cornell said: “As a fellow Soham councillor I know how he worked hard for the local people he served. His contributions to the council over the years improved lives across the whole of East Cambridgeshire.He will be sadly missed by his councillor colleagues and his community. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
