A mum of seven from Mildenhall has seen her life-changing weight loss story help her reach a second national final in the space of a year.
Lesley Richardson, from Clare Close, was announced as one of 10 finalists in Slimming World’s Woman of the Year, after making it through the semi-finals held earlier this month at the group’s headquarters in Derbyshire.
Back in May, Mrs Richardson, who has lost an incredible 17 stone 1 pound since joining the Mildenhall branch of the group, run by Donna Cooper, in December 2011, made it through to Slimming World’s Greatest Loser competition.
“After the first round of talks at the semi-final I said to Donna that I had no chance of making through as I failed to tell all of my story,” said Mrs Richardson.
“When my name was called out telling me I reached the final I was gobsmacked, I just couldn’t believe it.
“I could not have done this without the support of Donna and the rest of the group as they have been behind me all the way.”
Judges have already decided the winner of this year’s competition, who will win either a holiday or £3,000, following a second round of talks held at the semi-finals.
Although those officiating know who is picking up this year’s title, the 10 finalists will have to wait until a special ceremony, hosted by comedian Paddy McGuinness, at the ICC in Birmingham on November 9, before finding out their fate.
“I felt that my second talk for the final went well as everything I wanted to say I got out in my allotted time,” said Mrs Richardson.
“I am just bowled over to be going to the final, and if I win, which I don’t think I will do, I will probably faint on the stage.”
