Newmarket’s Nomads theatre group has secured a West End leading lady as its first patron.
Award-winning Kerry Ellis has enjoyed a successful career in professional theatre and as a recording artist.
She originated the role of Meat, in Queen’s We Will Rock You, and was the first British Elphaba in the hit West End show Wicked, for which she won a 2008 Whatsonstage.com Award.
It’s such a pleasure to be a patron of NOMADS, particularly as I’m Suffolk born and bred,” said Kerry. “I love supporting theatre and performance – especially when it’s close to home. I hope to be a good inspiration and help anyway I can.”
NOMADS chairman Tim Young said: “It is an honour and a privilege to have someone at the top of the profession, as Kerry is, as our patron.
Her support will be invaluable to the society in many practical ways, especially to our junior members who will be inspired by the help of such a theatre star. We look forward to welcoming Kerry to our lovely theatre and hope that she will enjoy being associated with our talented group who keep live theatre running at the heart of this community.”
The next production at the King’s Theatre is A Chorus Line. Tickets are now on sale at www.nomadskingstheatre.com or on 01638 663337.
