Laura’s set to step it out in Russia

Waiting for Video...

MOULTON teenager Laura Robinson will be jetting off to Russia next month after being selected to represent England in the world junior ballroom dance championships.

Fourteen-year-old Laura, and her dance partner Jordan Maguire, will be competing in Moscow in the competition organised by the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF).

For the Bury St Edmunds County Upper School student the call-up is the equivalent of Olympic selection and the culmination of years of dedication, hard work and practice.

Laura was just six years old when she started taking classes at teacher Claire Thompson’s studio in Red Lodge.

Teacher and pupil have been together ever since and, under Claire’s guidance, Laura became a junior national champion in ballroom, Latin and sequence dancing.

Just over 15 months ago Laura teamed up with her current partner Jordan and together they compete across the county most weekends and have enjoyed success in some of the major British competitions in both Latin and ballroom dance.

But success is hard-earned. Theirs is a long distance partnership as Jordan is based in Birmingham. Laura’s mum, Ann, spends most of her weekends driving her daughter to lessons and practice sessions as far away as Solihull and Reading.

“Laura and Jordan are good friends; they have great respect for each other and work very hard to improve on their dancing week on week,” said Mrs Robinson

“They are both members of the English Amateur Dance Association and Dancesport England, and are currently ranked first in the Latin, ballroom and 10 dance charts.

“At the moment they are competing in junior events and still have 16 months in this category so look forward to continuing success,” she said.

Dancesport England does not provide any funding for the world championships so Laura and Jordan are looking for sponsors to help with the costs of travelling to Russia.

“If any businesses or individuals are interested in hearing a more about their endeavours, they can contact me 01638 576400,” said Mrs Robinson.
