Karting cash for street sport

A charity karting challenge has given a local street sports initiative a welcome boost.

WildTracks Karting Centre at Chippenham raised over £1,000 for its charity of the year, the Forest Heath Street Sports Project, through its special Christmas Karting Challenge.

The event was organised in collaboration with Anglia Community Leisure (ACL), which runs the Street Sports Project in Forest Heath, and also marked the arrival of a fleet of new karts at the WildTracks centre.

Eleven teams took to the track to compete for the Street Sports Karting Challenge Trophy and the money raised will be spent on the development and running of the project throughout this year.

Street Sports co-ordinator, Keiran Williams said: “The funds that this event has raised represent a third of the cost of running a project at a location in Forest Heath. These funds will allow more young people to take part in free sports sessions. I would like to thank Impress Express for supplying the trophy and a massive thank you must go to WildTracks for running this fantastic event and supporting the project during 2012. This extra money is the best Christmas present we could have had.”

John Gorst, owner of WildTracks, said: “We have enjoyed working with ACL Street Sports very much this year. For 2013 we will have a new charity and this will be announced shortly, but I am pleased to be able to confirm that the Street Sports Karting Challenge is to become an annual event with the magnificent Impress Express trophy being presented each year.”
