Burwell residents are being told not to over-react to plans to build a 250-home estate in the village.
Parish council chairman Hazel Williams said it was too soon to panic as there was still a long way to go before the scheme to develop a 20-acre site in Ness Road was approved.
The parish council has already been assured that many of its anxieties concerning the county-council owned land are to be taken into account when a new design brief is drawn up. These worries included lack of open space for play areas, street lighting and road safety. “We are very pleased that these have been taken on board,” said Cllr Williams. However she said the council was not happy with the size of the scheme, even though it was to be a phased development. “The village plan recommends that 250 further homes should be built to bring Burwell’s population up to 5,700 by the year 2001,” said Cllr Williams.
