Work has started to transform disused allotment land at Newmarket’s Studlands Park estate into a BMX track.

Volunteers and contractors are working are working to turn the four acre site into a public park which will include wildflower meadows and a seating area.

|More than 50 residents
attended a public meeting in January as part if a consultation exercise by Forest heath Council when many parents were concerned about how close the park was to the
A14.

In a bid to combat those fears, existing vegetation is being kept on the site as a safety buffer between the two.

Planning permission for the park was granted in 2001 and funding for the project has come from Wren, the organisation which uses landfill tax credits to fund community schemes.

Also contributing are Suffolk Environmental Trust, Newmarket Town Council which has made a grant of £850 towards the project and Forest Heath Council which is giving the land.
