Tattersalls record breaking run continued at Park Paddocks on Tuesday when Immortal Verse sold for a European record of 4.7 million guineas.
Her sale came just 24 hours after Oaks winner Dancing Rain sold in foal to the legendary Frankel, sold for four million guineas on the opening day of the December Mare Sale.
Dancing Rain was the only Oaks winner carrying her first foal to be offered at public auction in the past 50 years and was always going to be one of the star attractions realising what is now the third highest price for a broodmare at auction in Europe. She was sold to the Sheikh Mohammed’s representative John Ferguson.
Immortal Verse, who was sold in foal to Dansili, was bought on behalf of the Sheikh’s great rival, the Coolmore Stud operation by Adrian Nicoll, from BBA Ireland, who said: “Everything was right with her. It was top whack for her, but she is beautiful.”
With Rosdhu Queen and Dream Peace sold for 2.1m guineas and 2.7m guineas respectively the day’s turnover went past 30,000,000 guineas for only the second time in European auction history.
