Schoolchildren in Burwell have been getting to grips with some brand new play equipment, thanks to funding from local businesses and organisations.
Burwell Village College Primary School, in The Causeway, celebrated the arrival of its new outdoor play area last month.
The school was awarded a grant from the Big Lottery Fund as a contribution towards the costs of the equipment, and the Friends of Burwell Village College and local businesses, including Morris Armitage and the Yorkshire Building Society, donated the rest.
Headteacher Nick Smith said: “Our old play equipment was falling apart.
“It had been there for years and we wanted and needed something new.
“The Parent Teacher Association wanted to raise money for a new climbing frame.
“We managed to get a grant and raised the rest.”
The school has had double the reason to celebrate after being rated “good” in its latest Ofsted inspection - an improvement from its previous rating of “satisfactory”.
As reported in last week’s Journal, pupils were rated “outstanding” for their behaviour, safety and “outstanding attitudes to learning”.
