A village pre-school celebrated its 40th birthday on Wednesday.
Classroom ceilings at Beck Row pre-school were covered with balloons as a party for its 53 children and seven staff was held to mark the milestone.
Topsy Bacon has stayed with the Lamble Close pre-school since opening it in 1974 with a group of other mums. Also on the staff role are Janine Bacon and Paula Kent, who have both chalked up more than 20 years of service.
“We are only a charity, not a private business, and I think 40 years is pretty good going,” said Topsy.
“A lot of the children treat us as their nannas, particularly the American families that come over. We are a very family-run group.”
