Hunt for handbag thief

Police are hunting a man who stole a handbag from a car in Newmarket while the owner was just yards away.

The incident took place at about 4.50pm on Friday as a woman was parking her car at her home in Fairlawns. When she got out to open her garage, a man opened the front passenger door of her car and grabbed her handbag containing cash and cards. He jumped into another car, which drove off in the direction of Dullingham.

The thief is described as white, around 5ft 6in tall, stockily built and wearing a dark coat, with a grey hood and dark trousers.
