Fans caught a glimpse of bushy-bearded Hollywood star Michael Fassbender on Friday as he filmed scenes for his brand new blockbuster.
The Oscar-nominated star of 12 Years A Slave had been in Ely all week shooting his new movie, an adaptation of the Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Banquet scenes for the highly-anticipated film which also stars Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard, as Lady Macbeth, have been shot inside Ely Cathedral’s Lady Chapel.
Filming was kept behind closed doors but eagle-eyed fans spotted Fassbender, 36, striding into the cathedral in full costume. One fan tweeted: “Just saw Michael Fassbender walking into Ely Cathedral fully dressed as Macbeth... didn’t manage to get a selfie though.”
Cotillard, who is playing Lady Macbeth, was wearing a black dress with plaited black hair, styled in a bun.
The new take on the Bard’s classic story of war, power, murder and guilt is directed by Justin Kurzel, and started shooting last month.
Oscar winning film The King’s Speech and The Other Boleyn Girl have also featured scenes shot in Ely
