Former England test cricketer Matthew Hoggard put the stars of the future through their paces at Chippenham on Saturday during a special one-off coaching session.
The ex-Yorkshire and Leicestershire bowler stopped by the club’s Chippenham Park ground to deliver a coaching session to more than 50 youngsters from the club’s under-9,11, and 13 teams.
“We were really pleased with how the session went as Matthew was a really nice guy,” said Darren Hughes, junior cricket manager at the club.
“It was a great thing for the club and all the parents thought it was fantastic, while the kids were all a bit star struck.”
It was not only the club’s younger generation that benefitted from the visit of the 2005 Ashes hero, with players from the senior side also receiving a session in the nets from the 37 year old.
“A few of the lads gave him a ribbing for not bowling quick enough at them but he soon got them jumping around when sending a couple of bouncers near their heads,” added Darren.
