Health trust showcases exhibition

AN EXHIBITION featuring the work of artists, sculptors and photographers is being staged at the Animal Health Trust as part of this year's July Festival.

The exhibition, which opens today, includes work by painters Jacquie Jones, Nicola Ottley and Neil Cawthorne, Worlington-based international racing photographer Trevor Jones and sculptor Judy Boyt.

There will also be a unique opportunity to see The Civil War Horse, a near life-size bronze by renowned sculptor Tessa Pullan which was commissioned in 1996 by philanthropist and racehorse owner and breeder Paul Mellon for the Virginian Historical Society.

Mr Mellon is probably best known as the breeder and owner of Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Mill Reef.

His Paul Mellon Foundation has been a long-time supporter of the work of the Animal Health Trust after Mill Reef was referred to specialists there back in 1972 when he broke his leg.

Thanks to the life-saving surgery by the trust's surgeons, the colt survived and stood as a successful stallion at Newmarket's National Stud until his death in 1986.

The exhibition will take place in the grounds of the trust at Kentford and refreshments will be available.

Today's open day is open between 10am and 8pm.

Entry is free but any donations received will go directly to the AHT and be used to improve companion animal health and welfare.
