Have your say on village plan

A PUBLIC consultation has been launched following the completion of a draft plan looking at how Soham can change, develop and grow over the next 20 years.

It follows nearly a year of detailed research, public events and exhibitions where residents commented upon ideas for the Soham Masterplan Vision, which is looking to develop and revitalise the town.

As part of the consultation, where people can look and give their views on the draft proposals, a two-day public exhibition is being held on March 11 and 13 at Soham Methodist Hall, as well as presentations at neighbourhood panel meetings and a permanent display at the Walter Gidney Pavilion and Soham Library.

Copies of the draft plan will also be available online at East Cambridgeshire Council's website throughout the consultation period, along with questionnaires for feedback.

The plan looks at creating gateways to Soham from the east and west, creating more employment opportunities and revitalising the town centre.

The possibility of a railway station, new leisure activities and additional homes to strengthen the local community, has also been included.

Cllr Derrick Beckett, chairman of the Soham Masterplan Vision Working Party, said there had been an incredible amount of support for the draft masterplan over the last year with residents getting behind the various ideas and concepts which had been put forward.

"The report conveys the strategic importance of Soham as a place of sustainable growth for the 21st century - somewhere that drives forward change," he said.

"We have already had great success talking to individuals, businesses and organisations about how the town should look over the next 20 years – they are keen to develop the possibilities of the town.

"They key now is to harness this genuine excitement one more time as we get closer to completing our work."

The consultation runs until March 31.
