Soham residents are invited to attend a public meeting next week to explore options to help shape the future of the town.

Residents will be able to find out more about an option to turn Soham Town Council-owned land in the Eastern Gateway, which is due for develop ment, into a Community Land Trust (CLT).

CLTs are community-based organisations run by volunteers that develop affordable housing, workspaces and community facilities, which meet the needs of the community and are owned and controlled by the community.

Rosemary Aitchison, town council chairman, said: “This meeting is for anybody who is interested to find out more about CLTs and how they can be involved specifically in Soham’s future.

“Community Land Trusts are very much community based. It’s quite a long-term option, so it wouldn’t happen overnight, but it would mean that people living in the town have more say about what is happening.”

The meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday at the Walter Gidney Pavilion in Fountain Lane.

Anyone who would like more information about the meeting can call 01353 720177 or 01353 723472.
