Grant funds new village squash coach
A COACHING grant and a newly renovated court could lead to a thriving squash league at the Ellesmere Centre in Stetchworth.
That’s the hope of Jenny Grimwood who, thanks to the grant awarded by Sport England via the Sportivate programme which covers the cost of her time, starts a three-week coaching course at the centre on Saturday.
It is open to youngsters between eight and 16 and will cost £2 for two hours for those first three weeks. Sessions run between 11am and 1pm.
“While there is good use of the squash facilities by adults, I want to encourage more youngsters,” said Jenny. “It will take a while to establish a thriving league but squash is seeing a revival so I’m hoping a core of new players will give us a base we can build on.”
Centre manager Julie Bampton said: “We have this great court – it has been repainted and relined and the floor has been resurfaced – and we are updating all the facilities here so it is fantastic to have been awarded this grant.”
