Reigning champion trainer John Gosden has given this month’s Betfair sponsored Newmarket Open Day a boost by confirming he is to open up the doors to his yard.
Visitors to the event on Sunday, September 22, will be able see the likes of Saturday’s Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes winner The Fugue, plus her Group One winning stable mates Elusive Kate and Winsili following the Bury Road handler’s decision.
Gosden’s Clarehaven Stables will be one of more than 30 yards open to the public on the day.
Others who have confirmed their participation in the event, which will raise money for The New Astley Club, The British Racing School and The National Horseracing Museum, include Derby winning trainer Luca Cumani and fellow Classic winning handler Ed Dunlop.
Before yards open up their doors to the public between 10am and 1pm, horses from the yards of Godolphin, Sir Mark Prescott and Lady Cecil will take part in a gallop, sponsored by the Racing Post, on Warren Hill, between 9am and 10am.
“We are very grateful to all the trainers and other venues who have agreed to take part in this event,” said Julian Richmond Watson, chairman of the event.
“It gives so many racing enthusiasts such pleasure to see behind the scenes of the racing industry while raising money for three important charities.”
Aside from being able to look around many of the town’s various racing stables, they will also have the chance to visit the British Racing School, bloodstock auctioneers Tattersalls and the National Horseracing Museum.
Between 1.30pm and 4.30pm attention will turn to the town’s Rowley Mile Racecourse where a host of activities will take place including a trainers v jockeys five-a-side match, a Shetland pony Grand National and scurry driving.
For the younger visitor the open day will also host an interactive roadshow enabling them to find out about the human and equine stars of the sport.
Tickets for the event cost £13 online and £15 on the day. Accompanied children under-12 are admitted free. To book tickets in advance visit www.newmarketopenday.co.uk.
