Newmarket student, Gabriel Lowrie, is tackling his first marathon as a tribute to his late grandfather.
When 23-year-old Gabe of Mill Hill, joins thousands of others in next month’s London showpiece he will be raising funds to support the Alzheimer’s Society.
Currently studying for a masters’ degree in social work at Sheffield University, Gabe, who is a former pupil of St Louis Roman Catholic Academy in Newmarket, and St Benedict’s Upper in Bury St Edmunds, is no stranger to tough training schedules having competed regularly in triathlon while a student at Leeds Metropolitan University where he trained with Olympic gold and bronze medallists, Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee.
“My grandad, David Lowrie, loved sport and was always very proud of my athletic achievements so I am sure he would be delighted I am running the marathon,” he said.
