Frankel gets under starters’ orders at stud
Frankel at Banstead Manor Stud
Frankel starts his new career as a stallion at Banstead Manor Stud today.
Over the next four months he will be visited by the creme de la creme of mares representing the bluest of blue blood and, according to Juddmonte Farms general manager Philip Mitchell, “just what would be expected for the best racehorse ever”.
And his harem will include no less than 60 mares that have either won a Group/Grade 1, produced a Group/Grade 1 winner or both.
Among them are Oaks winner Dancing Rain, King George and Arc winner Danedream, Breeders’ Cup winner Midday, triple Group 1 winner Dar Re Mi and Flirtation and dam of five-time Group 1 winner Attraction.
Stud manager Simon Mockridge said: “Frankel has really pleased us since arriving at the stud last November.
“He settled in very quickly and showed us from the start that he is an ‘alpha male’.
“He is an intelligent horse with an active mind, and physically he looks really well in himself.
“Just as when he was a racehorse, his appetite is fantastic. He has already put on 45kg since his arrival.
“Like the other stallions here, he will be very busy from this week until the end of June.
“But his preparatory exercise has gone well and we are looking forward to him starting his stud career.”
